Used Carlotta - Circa 1994! Left to Right: Dave Austin (Bass), Mysterious German Girl Whose Name I Did Not Catch (Drinks), Roger Wright (Drums), John Skrobieschewrinssyebcewrdski - in tub (Violin), Louis Ledford - washing hair (Guitar and Vocals), and me (Guitar and Keys). Great band to see on a Friday night at The Lonesome Coyote in Richmond, Virginia’s Shockoe Bottom area.
This is my old bathroom from a house (since demolished) at 702 South Pine Street in Oregon Hill. In 1997, a few nights before the bulldozers were scheduled to raze the joint, I broke into the place with visions of liberating that amazing, cast iron claw-foot bathtub. I picked up the corner and realized it weighed about 300 pounds. Bye bye tub.
On the wall behind Louis’ head is a beautiful 1950s Elgin wall clock. I found it in the basement of another ghetto house and never thought of plugging it in to see if it actually worked. Later that day I tried it out. It was not only a fine timepiece, but had two 25-watt bulbs in the back that made the face produce a soft orange glow. Since 1995, it’s beamed like an autumn sunset at Helen’s Inn at the corner of Robinson and Main.
